How long is a Thai legal document valid for?

Short answer

There is no single answer — validity depends on the document and on the office receiving it. Many offices additionally impose a recency rule, commonly requiring certificates issued within the last three to six months.

Company affidavits and certificates of registration are typical examples: the underlying fact does not expire, but the receiving party wants a recently issued copy. Always ask the receiving office for its recency rule before ordering documents.

Legalisation and apostille certificates follow the same logic. The certificate itself does not carry an expiry date, but a destination authority may still ask for a recent one.
