How far in advance should I book an interpreter?
Short answer
As soon as the date is fixed. Rare language pairs, simultaneous conference work and court dates are the hardest to staff at short notice; general business consecutive work is easier but still benefits from preparation time.
Preparation is the reason for lead time, not availability alone. An interpreter who has read the agenda, the contract or the charge sheet performs measurably better than one briefed in the corridor.
If the date moves, tell us early. Rescheduling an assignment that has already been staffed is possible, but availability for the new date is confirmed case by case.
