What is the TR.13 (yellow) house registration book and what is it for?

Short answer

TR.13 is the house registration record used for non-Thai residents, issued by the local district office and commonly called the yellow book. It records your name and address in the Thai civil registration system and produces an official proof of residence that many offices accept in place of an embassy letter.

It is optional, not a permission to stay — it changes nothing about your visa or permission of stay, and it does not replace TM.30 accommodation notification or 90-day reporting. What it does is make routine administration easier: opening some bank accounts, applying for a driving licence, registering a vehicle, and any process where an address must be evidenced.

Applications are made at the district office covering the property, generally with your passport, the property owner's house registration and identity document or consent, evidence of your permission to stay, and a certified translation of the passport; some offices also want a marriage or birth certificate where the relationship to the property owner matters. Requirements vary by office, so confirm the exact list with that district office before going.
