Do I become a Thai tax resident automatically?

Short answer

Section 41 of the Revenue Code treats presence in Thailand of 180 days or more within a tax year as tax residence. It follows from days present, not from visa type, so it can apply without any application.

Days are counted per tax year, so a stay spanning a year end can leave you non-resident in both years or resident in one. Keep a simple travel log; reconstructing it from stamps years later is painful.

Tax residence does not by itself mean all your worldwide income is taxed in Thailand. The scope depends on source, remittance and any applicable double tax agreement.
