What has to appear on a Thai tax invoice?

Short answer

The Revenue Code prescribes the content of a full tax invoice: the words 'Tax Invoice' prominently shown, the name, address and taxpayer identification number of the issuing VAT registrant, the name and address of the purchaser, a serial number, a description and quantity of the goods or services, the value and the VAT amount shown separately, and the date of issue.

Input tax is claimed on the strength of that document, so a defect on the supplier's paperwork becomes the buyer's problem. Branch identification, a missing taxpayer number and a VAT amount folded into the total are the three defects that most often cause a claim to be denied on examination. Check invoices when they arrive, not at year end.

Abbreviated tax invoices exist for certain retail situations and do not support an input tax claim in the same way. If your staff buy on the company account, tell them which document to ask for — the difference between a receipt and a full tax invoice is the difference between a recoverable and an unrecoverable amount.
